When I saw Eduardo’s new topic about bad 90’s songs, this was the first song that came to mind.  Granted, I can’t say I ever really hated this song, it to me was just one of those really annoying “summer songs” that is played over… and over… and over… and over… and over… again.

Upon researching it, I found that I was am not alone in my feelings.  Rolling Stone named it one of the “20 Most Annoying Songs“, while AOL Radio called it one of the “100 Worst Songs of All Time“.

Even though this song was released in August of 1997, it hit it’s high point at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 list here in the States in late November of that year.

I remember for a while there, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing this annoying song.  Radio stations, bars, clubs, etc… it was EVERYWHERE.

In fact, the following May of 1998 while Jaimenacho and I were in the final planning stages of our big Europe trip, we had a discussion one night about what song would be the “theme” of the trip, and that’d we’d hear all over the place, we decided it was Tubthumping.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately) we never heard this song on our journey.  Not even while pissing the night away drinking a lager drink and a cider drink.

Unrelated Side Note : Even though we didn’t hear Tubthumping on our trip through Europe, we did hear a classic song from that same year.  While in a small pub in Athens Greece,  we heard Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead.  I guess a lot of Europeans had better taste in music than we originally thought they did.
